Diving First Aid (DFA) is the most comprehensive first aid course in recreational diving. It’s designed for divers, instructors, divemasters, and anyone who wants to be genuinely prepared when a diving or marine emergency happens.


This course goes far beyond “CPR checkbox training.” You’ll learn how to recognize diving-related injuries, manage emergencies calmly, and provide meaningful care until EMS or advanced medical support takes over.


Dive With Frank teaches DFA as a hands-on, instructor-led course, focused on real-world scenarios and decision-making, not memorizing slides.

What's included

Instructor-Led Training

Hands-on, instructor-led skills development focused on real-world emergency response, decision-making, and confidence under pressure.

Emergency Oxygen Units

Use of professional emergency oxygen units during class to practice assembly, delivery methods, and patient management.

CPR Manikins

Hands-on CPR practice using adult, child, and infant manikins following current DAN life support protocols.

AED Trainers

Training AED units provided so students can practice proper deployment, pad placement, and shock procedures.

First Aid Skill Practice

Practical first aid training including patient assessment, bleeding control, shock management, and injury stabilization.

DAN eLearning Access

Access to DAN’s official eLearning materials covering emergency oxygen, CPR, first aid, neurological assessment, and hazardous marine life injuries.

DAN Certification

Successful completion earns DAN Diving First Aid (DFA) certification, recognized throughout the dive industry.

Small Group Instruction

Small class sizes to ensure personalized instruction, feedback, and plenty of hands-on time with equipment.

Pocket Mask (Take-Home)

Personal CPR pocket mask provided for hands-on training and yours to keep. Used during class to practice effective ventilations and carried afterward as real-world emergency safety gear.

Reference Slates

Take-home diver slates for use during training and future dives. Ideal for emergency reminders, notes, and communication. A practical tool you’ll actually keep in your kit.

Personal Equipment

Personal medical or first aid equipment is not included to take home after the course.
